Located in the heart of Astoria, Barzola is a culinary gem that brings the vibrant flavors of Ecuadorian and Colombian cuisine to New York City. This inviting restaurant offers a genuine taste of traditional South American dishes, crafted with care and authenticity that immediately captivates your senses. From the moment you walk in, the warm, bustling atmosphere enhances the dining experience, making it ideal for family gatherings, celebrations, or an intimate meal full of rich, hearty flavors.
The menu at Barzola is a delicious journey through Ecuador’s diverse palate. Signature dishes such as the Bandera Ceviche De Camarón and Encebollado De Pescado showcase the perfect balance between fresh seafood and zesty, tangy seasonings. The Bolon Mixto, a classic Ecuadorian treat made from mashed plantains filled with cheese and meat, comes highly recommended by longtime patrons, especially when paired with their special salsa criolla or the vibrant pink sauce—a harmony of flavors that dances on the tongue.
For those craving something heartier, plates like Seco De Chivo (goat stew) and Guatita (a traditional tripe stew) deliver robust, comforting flavors that linger with every bite. The Cazuela De Camaron and Pescado Empanizado offer perfectly cooked seafood options loaded with zest and texture. The kitchen also shines with Ecuadorian staples like Chaulafan, a flavorful take on fried rice, and Muchines 3, showcasing the wholesome versatility of plantain dishes.
Barzola’s beverage selection complements the meal beautifully. Whether you’re unwinding with a classic Margarita, savoring a glass of Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio, or indulging in a smooth Courvoisier VSOP Cognac, the drink menu is thoughtfully curated to elevate your dining experience. Classic South American drinks such as Canelazo—a warm cinnamon cocktail—and freshly brewed Café Expresso add an extra touch of tradition.
Guests repeatedly highlight the remarkable service and atmosphere. From intimate family celebrations to casual gatherings, Barzola’s staff exude warmth and attentiveness, ensuring every guest feels valued. As one customer, Wilmer Palma Diaz Soto, recounted, the attentive care from servers like Jose Roman creates an exceptional and truly welcoming environment, perfect for any special occasion.
While some guests note minor inconsistencies, such as Justin Epps’s experience with a drier bolon than expected, the overall feedback celebrates the authenticity and passion infused into every dish. Kevin’s enthusiastic praise of the lentils and rice with chicken cutlet, paired with flavorful appetizers and generous portions, truly sums up the delightful experience that awaits.
Whether you’re a connoisseur of Ecuadorian cuisine or looking to explore something new with genuine, traditional flavors, Barzola promises a feast that is as heartfelt as it is delicious. Its commitment to authentic taste and inviting ambiance makes it a must-visit destination on Broadway in Astoria.
Love love love! Been going to this place since forever. Best Ecuadorian/Columbian food in the area! Very traditional flavors too! The lentils and rice combo with chicken cutlet is the best. The portions are fantastic and as for appetizers I love the bolon menu they have! Make sure to order the bolon with the special salsa criolla and green sauce if they have it. Pink sauce too! Highly recommend. Great for big family or work groups and small dates with friends or significant others! They sometimes have live music which is also amazing.
Authentic, as good as their first location. Almost tastes as good as my moms cooking. She still makes a Better encebollado. But the cazuela is perfect
We had a birthday gathering at Barzola last night, and I was truly impressed by the outstanding service we received. Our server, Jose Roman, was exceptionally attentive and efficient—he made sure our every need was met, which is no small task considering we’re quite a particular group! Anita and Paola were also incredibly kind and attentive, contributing to an overall warm and welcoming experience. To me, a restaurant can have a beautiful atmosphere and delicious food, but if the service doesn’t meet the mark, it takes away from the overall experience. I’m happy to say that Barzola exceeded our expectations on all aspects. A heartfelt thank you to Jose, Anita, and Paola for your excellent service and warm demeanor. We’ll definitely be back—and we’ll be recommending Barzola to everyone we know!
My first time here, on Christmas Day it was a good experience. The vibes of the restaurant were good and we had a good time. The service was good however it took about 20 mins after eating to track someone down just to get the check. Staff was nice and friendly. Food was great in my opinion. The Bolon did not meet expectation as it was quite dry, but overall a good experience. I would recommend this place for any event or just a night out.
My sister had told me this place was good. I went with the family for a graduation dinner and I was so impressed! Can’t always find good Ecuadorian restaurant, according to my mama but this place did an amazing job with everything we ordered. My mom ordered the Cazuela de pescado (tuna) and she was so happy she finally was having one of her favorite dishes that tasted like what she was use to back in Ecuador. It was delicious! I had the seco de chivo! Amazing flavor! Good happy hour drinks. I’ll be back with my husband to try more dishes. And now my mom will probably be back every week also the staff was very nice and friendly. They were so kind to my niece (the graduate). They made her day very memorable
Food was delicious! We never had Ecuadorean food before but this was the perfect place to try everything! The drinks/happy hour was amazing! Staff was super lovely and the portions were good too.
Delicious Ecuadorian spot in Astoria! We’d been searching for authentic Ecuadorian food in Queens and finally found Barzola through a recommendation and it did not disappoint. The Bolón was outstanding, and the Llapingacho was hands-down the best I’ve ever had. Definitely a place I’ll return to whenever I’m in the area, and one I’d highly recommend to anyone visiting or living nearby!
From the Ayacas to the coconut lemonades, to the main courses, it was a delight. Great atmosphere, nearby parking, no reservation required, and excellent service are what distinguish this great Ecuadorian restaurant. Less than USD $150, including tip, for a lunch for three people, it's quite affordable compared to what you'll find around town, especially in New York.
